Man I hope this is a stupid question. Most beer-can chicken recipes call for closing the grill lid. However, on my weber there is not enough lid-height to close the grill while the bird is standing. Is there an easy solution to this I am missing? I do not think weber makes a grill extender. Thanks

Fri, August 18, 2006 - 3:19 PMI don't have a Weber kettle grill so I unfortunately don't have a solution for you, but I can tell you it's not a stupid question.
My off-set smoker's smoke chamber isn't tall enough either to have a chicken stand up on a can and have the lid closed. What I did was I took out the food grate, lined the smoke chamber lower coals grate with foil, and stood the chicken and can on the lower coals grate.
I'm posting a composite picture of my beer can chicken in this tribe. -

Mon, August 21, 2006 - 12:26 PMThanks, that is pretty much what I ended up doing...removing top grate and hippie-rigging an elevated base using a brick. It worked out great.
