Re: Best BBQ Restaurant
Sat, June 26, 2004 - 12:43 AMMemphis Minnie's is usually excellent, although sometimes they serve meat that is too dry. When their beef brisket is juicy and tender, it is to die for.

Re: Best BBQ Restaurant
Sat, June 26, 2004 - 9:13 AMYeah, hearing good things about Memphis Minnies. I spend a fair amount of time at Everett & Jones in Berkeley on San Pablo Avenue near University. DO NOT GO TO JONE'S BBQ IN El Sobrante. Repeatedly no smokey flavor in meat. Nasty. -

Mon, June 28, 2004 - 1:53 AMWhat does everyone think of Nate's, Brother in Law's and other spots in Sf? -
-
Re: Best BBQ Restaurant
Mon, June 28, 2004 - 12:33 PMI've enjoyed Brother-in-Law's, but both Nate's and BIL's put too much sauce on their meats. I once had the brisket at Brother-in-Law's - tender, but no smoke flavor whatsoever. I've had Pittman's once - it was just ok. -

Re: Best BBQ Restaurant
Mon, June 28, 2004 - 8:47 PMany of you checked out Claypool's in the Marina? Hadn't tried it, but I've heard some good raves about it.
Last time I wend to Memphis Minnie's, I had a skimpy ass portion. (Small portions is not my idea of BBQ). -

Re: Best BBQ Restaurant
Mon, June 28, 2004 - 8:56 PMoh yeah, Johnson's out in Bayview is good - it's worth the drive, but I'd get it to go if you're not familiar with "da hood." -

Re: Best BBQ Restaurant
Mon, June 28, 2004 - 10:45 PMI don't know if it's the best (since I am very partial to Memphis Minnie's) but Doug's on San Pablo in Oakland is very good. Nice people too. -
-
Re: Best BBQ Restaurant
Mon, June 28, 2004 - 10:51 PMI've eaten at Doug's a handful of times. They tout themselves as Texas BBQ, but their beef brisket isn't very smokey. Their pork spareribs are hit and miss. I've had some DAMN good pork ribs from them, although once, the ribs were just ok. They mop on way way too much sauce - I have to remember to ask them for sauce on the side. Also, two out of three times I asked for the spicy hot sauce, they gave me mild, so I've since given up asking for the hot sauce. -

Tue, July 12, 2005 - 5:54 PMI hope this thread is still kicking. There is a rumor of a place on Silver Ave that kicks ass. Any ideas?

Re: Best BBQ Restaurant
Mon, June 28, 2004 - 10:47 PMI had Claypool's once, soon after the opened. The pulled pork was very tender, but not as smokey as I expected. Very interesting beans. I have read that the place has become popular and they gave in to pressure and are now serving ribs, even though ribs are not traditional to Memphis BBQ. I also read the owner Philip Claypool strums his guitar live on Thursday evenings.
I gotta check that place out again!

Tue, November 29, 2005 - 6:51 PMAndy's BBQ in Santa Clara
www.andysbbq.com/
I haven't been there since they moved shop from Campbell to SC, but it's the same owners running so I wouldn't anticipate much of a change.
Word is the Dead use to grub there & play all night long....I wish I had been around for that. -
