I use charcoal, been using it and was taught by my dad. But now my cooking is becoming alittle better than his ;) -

Re: Gass or Charcoal
Fri, June 9, 2006 - 7:55 AMLast weekend I smoked up some ribs. Since I am a relatively new bbq'er I am still trying to perfect the smoke, the rub and the the length of time the meat is on the smoker.
I ended up using the natural wood charcoil, it looks like preburnt hunks of wood, as my base and then used hickory wood chunks on top of that.
That was good to keep the fire hot for 3 hours restoking it with new charcoal that I lit in a chimney starter.
Best dang ribs I ever made, it helped that I used the larger countrystyle pork ribs instead of babybacks.
The babybacks tend to be more finicky with less flavor. -

Re: Gass or Charcoal
Fri, June 9, 2006 - 10:43 PMI always use the full rack of ribs rather than the babybacks. If you're going to the trouble of bbq'ing give yourself something to eat! -

Wed, July 19, 2006 - 12:49 PMAnd if you're going to smoke I would suggest investing in a Weber Bullet. I got mine off of Amazon and they delivered right to my doorstep and at a better price than I could find anywhere else. It makes smoking anything sooooooooooo easy. I have a bullet and a grill depending on what I am doing. -

Wed, July 19, 2006 - 1:45 PMThats pretty cool. I've looked into the Webber Bullet. Looks like it could cook up some awsome stuff, but the price is kinda up there. How much did you pay for it?

Gas on the side.
Like a stovetop: boil pasta, simmer a sauce, keep a covered tray warm, etc.

(I was _surprised_ to see a new post in the bbq tribe... had just the day
before thought, "I guess we won't see anything in that Tribe for a few
months...) .

Re: Gass or Charcoal
Fri, November 24, 2006 - 6:32 PMHey, anytime's the right to bbq! We have had an awning installed over the entire deck that is just off the kitchen, as we were tired of our gallant efforts to bbq here in rainy England dashed right in the middle of cooking. Not a prob anymore! -

Awning, awning... right, another element to add to my "ultimate BBQ patio" dream...
Alas, however, our kitchen doesn't have good immediate access to the outdoors. :(
